Ministry for
Kids, Teens & Tweens
A fun, safe space to grow and learn
As United Methodists, the Urban Abbey teaches a shared method of engaging the hands, heart, and head in the life of faith. Our events offer tools for children, teens, and young adults to study, reflect, and center as they grow spiritually. Email us for more information or to get involved.
One-Room Sunday School House (ages 3+)
Sunday school is meant to be an engaging activity where kids learn and grow into their true selves, not a stodgy class they resign themselves to attending. At the Urban Abbey, Sunday school involves play, scripture, art, songs, Yoga, and all kinds of stories. The curriculum is relevant to the world around us, so kids have a framework for modern life.
We make a safe space to nurture the seeds of resilience in each soul and give skills for centering, praying, reflecting, thinking and discerning — rather than rules to learn and scriptures to memorize. We celebrate and support each student and never limit imagination or possibilities. Curriculum invites empathy, compassion, and critical thinking.

Resources for Youth Spirituality
Open Mic Night (25 and Under)
Centering young voices and channeling their creativity into spoken word and poetry. We often have themes of social justice and political activism.
4H (5 to 18)
We love hosting 4H. The programming is inclusive of all people and the curriculum is peer-reviewed by our university extension professionals. 4H is open to youth ages five to 18 and students can exhibit in the fair. 4H is positive youth development and we are grateful to the Univerty extension office.
Youth Social Justice League
We invite all middle and high school students to join us in the work of social justice, civic engagement, and community care. Join us to make art, explore theater, volunteer, connect with elected officials, and more as we work to make positive change in our community!
Health and Sex Ed @ the Abbey
Once a year we invite 4th - 6th graders for an evening of education on puberty, healthy relationships, and self-care. We believe that young people understanding, caring for, and loving their bodies builds the bridge to happy, safe, and healthy futures! We partner with trained educators to provide an evening of fun games, interactive activities, and research-based learning. We hope you'll join us!
Period Pro-Tip Party
Once a year we gather folks who have started or are preparing to start their periods because we believe knowing your body, taking care of your body, and loving your body is important. We partner with trained health educators and teach young people about their menstrual cycles, period products, and self care. With fun games, interactive activities, and research-based learning as we explore the work of understanding and loving our bodies.
